a Squire Helping His Knight Arm
If a boy wishes to become a squire he must have his father or mother call me to discuss the training and the convictions required. If, after discussion with father or mother, it appears a boy is truly serious about becoming a knight and he holds sincerely to the convictions of a knight, then I am glad to have him as a squire. Squires assist a knight in various ways and by doing so learn themselves what it means to be a knight. When the squire becomes a man and has his suit of armor, he promises to keep the oath of the knight and is dubbed a knight by the man he has served as a squire. One of our primary missions is to see that maidens of all ages are given proper respect and are well protected. It is hard to imagine there is a young maiden Paul's age who wouldn't dream of having him as her knight. Well, one day, my young ladies, one of you will be greatly blessed to have him and by God's grace he will be faithful to you, whoever you may be.
What do squires do today? Assist a knight
in keeping the rust of his armor is one important duty. In one of the
photos in the slideshow you will see Paul using our ancient medieval formula of
oil to clean the armor of rust (WD40 - didn't you know! Just kidding about it
being medieval - we have lost the ancient formula but WD40 does a good
job!). Squires also help a knight put on the armor with all its straps and
steel pins and hinges. Squires appear with knights and assist by promoting
his knight's appearances. Sire Paul is working even now to find errands
for us to do in his home town of Rochester, New York. When a knight
receives pay as a result of some errand his squire has acquired for them, he
does pay his squire and the squire is to save this money toward the goal of one
day acquiring his own suit of armor which can cost from $4,000 to $9,000 or more
depending upon the size of the knight and the kind of armor he requires.
Squires appear with me at scout blue and gold banquets, in parades, in schools,
at weddings and wedding rehearsal dinners and at churches.
Paul has just begun his journey toward knighthood. But what a beginning he has made. On Sunday, August 26th, Squire Paul and his family drove all the way from Rochester, New York to Wendleville where we met up for our first assignment together. Paul helped me clean the armor and then it assisted me as I suited up for our joint assignment. Our mission was to present the good news about God's holy armor to the congregation. Paul recited Ephesians 6 about the armor of God and I proceeded to speak about each piece of the armor and how essential it is to put in on each morning to stand against the wiles of the devil. Paul is memorizing the oath of the knight and saving up for his steel armor but even now I know he has put on the spiritual armor God has provided and is taking his stand against the devil. Paul knows the tricks the devil can play and is well prepared to resist and make the devil flee. Paul knows the Lord Jesus Christ is King and the armor we wear is well able to protect us as we work in the Kingdom together.
