SCOUT OATH OR PROMISE
Can you see the knight behind these scouts holding his lance?
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
Compare it to the oath of the knight.
Notice the knight on a horse in his armor in the background. His head is now showing but you can see his hand on the lance and a portion of his armor. The significance of this picture is that the scout ought to consider himself a direct descendant of the knights since his oath is so similar to that of the knight's oath.
